Heart patients no longer need transplants. Quadriplegic walks. Diabetes and MS in remission. Body regeneration. New organs grown and transplanted within weeks. This is happening today using stem cells. Not embryonic stem cells, manufactured in the lab, but natural stem cells from the patient's own body. The future is now. |

It's a unique cell that replicates itself indefinitely, while producing offspring that mature into specific organs such as the heart, lungs and brain. Besides deriving from blood and bone marrow, stem cells come from a variety of sources, including embryos, adult cells and umbilical cord blood. Video |

Stem cell research is legal in Michigan. Our researchers can work with any stem cells they choose. They are not limited to adult, berashis, or even the Bush approved lines. IVF patients can donate their embryos and our researchers can work with stem cells from them. What about the proposal? The proposal prohibits government regulation of the biotech and pharmaceutical companies, which is alarming since it is already outside internationally accepted standards for this type of research. If adapted, this proposal would forbid us from complying with current or future guidelines. |

Are embryonic stem cells better? |
|
There is no evidence they are superior to other stem cells for anything other than researching embryonic stem cells and development. Embryonic stem cells always form tumors when placed inside the body. Indeed, tumor formation is a preliminary test for embryonic stem cells. If no tumor arises after injection under the skin, it is discarded because there are no embryonic stem cells. This is why in 25+ years of working with embryonic stem cells in animals they have never been considered safe enough for human trials. |
